DATING FOR MILLENIALS
Part 1
TEXTING, APPS AND SOCIAL MEDIA -HOW DATING AND RELATIONSHIPS HAVE CHANGED….
For prior generations, meeting for a date was considered a romantic way to foster relationships and meet a potential partner. People in the past rushed to find someone to share their life with. Often they met mainly through friends family and social events. Millennial adults however, prefer to wait for partners who possess all the qualities they truly care about. They will rarely settle for a lesser option just to keep from being alone. Today online apps and matchmaking websites have taken over the dating scene. Dating has evolved, we now play match making through apps.
Blind dates are a little passé. You can learn almost anything about the person you are about to meet by going online. Thanks to Google search, Tinder, FB, Instagram and other social media, your prospective date is just a click away. These innovations have revolutionized dating and changed how connections are made with a potential partner. While it appears that the internet makes it easier to meet and keep in touch with people, it also has its down side, potentially making intimate personal details part of the public domain.
Shooting off a Facebook message, giving likes, sending texts or commenting on each other’s tweets are all acceptable ways of maintaining a relationship. Daters also enjoy world wide -web full of new people to interact with. People can maintain friendships and relationships and form new communities with the click of a button.
However, on friendship, experts indicate that even though young people are spending large amounts of time online, they are not necessarily using this time to form truly meaningful friendships. The irony is that you may have hundreds of friends and followers, but still be lonely or physically isolated.
On the bright side these new technologies bring with it new ways of seeing the world at large. Being exposed to varying points of view, cultures and new ideas, Millennials question everything. This new generation exhibits a greater patience and tolerance and understanding of people regardless of their racial, cultural, religious or sexual orientation. It’s a new generation and the future looks bright.
